A classic circus or birthday clown, typically displayed with white face makeup, a red nose, exaggerated eyes and smile, and two tufts of brightly colored hair.

May be used to represent clowns, circuses, comedy, entertainment, or silliness. Can also be used negatively or mockingly to suggest that a person has behaved foolishly, embarrassingly, incompetently, or otherwise like a “clown.” As such, during the mid-to-late 2010s, critics of Donald Trump used this emoji, sometimes alongside 🍊 Tangerine, as an insulting reference to him in various viral social posts and memes.
